Summer Dropouts: an introduction to dropout vessels A three day introductory course designed to provide students with an understanding of the processes involved in creating a glass vessel using the dropout mould technique. Through demonstrations, observation, discussion and hands-on experience, participants will explore each stage of the process, from designing and preparing a glass blank, to firing, cold working and finishing a completed piece. Students will have the opportunity to observe the transformation of glass in real time and gain practical experience in creating their own dropout vessel while developing an appreciation for the technical and creative considerations involved in kiln-formed glass. Day 1: Understanding the dropout process and creating a blank Day 2: Preparing for firing and observing the dropout Day 3: Cold working and finishing Taught by experienced Cornish glass artist Helen Eastham. You will leave with a finished, unique glass vessel and the skills to develop your own designs further. All materials, tools and kiln firings provided. Small group size: maximum four students. Bring your own lunch.
